I am still new to technology. In other words, the problem could be because I cannot operate the computer properly or the Internet has been too slow I am still trying to get my letter of request to the ambassador in hope that I might get the permission so that I would be able to do more for the kids and my fellow people if not the world. So,anybody please help me forward my letter below to the graceful US ambassador in Bangkok, Thailand.  262 Moo. 19 T. Saensook,

Subject: Asking permission to use a photograph

To: The US Ambassador

With reference to your visit to my university, Ubonratchathani University on October 2nd, 2013: your photo was taken with one of my students (see the photo below). I am writing to ask permission to use that photo for my current project.

On Wednesday the 2nd a picture was taken with a student of mine, Thanawoot. Coincidently, Thanawoot was a student who helped me teach young children in my village, Lau Sue Kok, and he is the very one I have planned to write about to inspire others. The book (to be published in Thai) will be about learning from direct experiences from both teaching at a university and working in a community for years. Although I am an ordinary lecturer, I am confident that I have something valuable to share to the world. The book emphasizes how important it is for people to try harder to communicate ( language in use) and live together in harmony.

I am seriously considering using this photo for the front cover of the book, and because you are a representative from a leading country in the world, I strongly believe that your permission to let me use the picture of you with my student will be a great help for my project (which is not aiming for personal benefit but for social work and charity). For now, I planned to name my book “Not only the Ambassador, but also everybody needs to reach out” or something similar to this.

You can also learn more about me and my work at www.meteekansa.blogspot.com. Should you have any inquiries, please let me know. I am willing to provide you with any additional information as needed.

Sincerely yours,

Metee (Key) Kansa (mkan01@hotmail.com)

Seek help from English native speakers, please.

The picture below represents where I came from, and why I often need help as far as English is concern. I have tried posting this on my Facebook, but haven't got any responses yet, so I decided to post it again on my blog:

Dear (Facebook) friends (whose first language is English),

As an English teacher who learned English as a second language, there are times when I question myself about English, and that’s when I need to seek some helps from native speakers. So, I would appreciate it a lot if  any online or Facebook  friends would  respond.

This is from Facebook. Someone posted  (a saying?)“ Don’t depend too much on anyone in  this world because even your shadow leaves you when you’re in darkness ” And here are different comments quoted:

·
2. I totally disagree with this statement. we SHOULD be relying on each other and experience a sense of community.

3. I am finding this to be completely untrue. I am so thankful for my friends who are with me now in this darkness.
  4. Completely? I'd like to see you throw a shadow in the dark...

·         5. such a sad thought!

8.  reading these negative comments is bumming me out. I think I will listen to beth hart on youtube. peace.
9.  Lighten up people, read the WORDS. Depend on others, just not TOO much. Independence is valuable, ie..... I don't want to smoosh the spider, but I can.
10. this sounds like someone who wants us to separate from each other and fight each other. This sounds like dogma bullshit to me. We can only survive through community.

Here is my response:
·         Metee Kansa It's a best advice to me when I first read it, but after I read what others people talked about friends, I also agreed. .... Then, I read it again because I am not an English native speaker. The phrase " too much" makes me wonder how can it be "completely untrue?"

My question:
When I first read the saying I liked it a lot, and I just thought that it could be helpful to share this with my students and my fellow people so that they would try to work harder and be able to stand on their feet.  Then I saw one comment saying that “it is completely untrue”. I rather agreed with parts of the arguments, so I posted my comments. Meanwhile,  I got more interested in what other people thought because I realized that I could have missed something as far as my English was concerned. I was surprised that a few people considered the saying so negative or even destructive.  Although there are a few people saying the saying is true and the comment number 9 seemed to share similar view with me  I am not sure I understood the saying correctly because I did not see anything negative when I first read it. What I would like to know is whether the saying really neutral or negative linguistically.  In other words, what do you think about the saying and the comments quoted. .  In addition, I could not link the saying to the comment “ gay”  in number 7. In what way can the saying possibly be considered ‘gay’?

Please feel free to take your time for I do not need to get the reply straight away. Nevertheless, as an English teacher I would appreciate your help and response for I really hope  to learn  what  I have missed or misunderstood.

Thank you for your time and help.

Some pictures from the village "Lau Sue Kok"

I went back to the village again yesterday to  test the students after assigning them to read about the community. It is a part of a campaign to encourage them to read more. After the test, we went to a community forest. Last year, my friends and I planted some trees along the road in hope that we would get more trees and also add some beauty to that dirt road. Unfortunately there are a lot of weeds, so we need to take those weeds out to enable the small plants to grow faster. I have ask people to join the activity. However, it is farming time and most villagers are in the fields, so I asked the students to help me. The pictures are from yesterday's  activity (August 17,2013)

Back to Post

I haven't written for months. Now it may be time to post more. On the other hand, what I am going to write will not be completely different because I have been doing the same or similar things in the village. My main purpose is to do something that might help the kids there learn to learn. I wish to provide more opportunities for them so that they will learn to prepare themselves better for the world outside the village. I wish to be able to afford to have a permanent shelter to organize more regular activities for kids in the village. I have spent most of my saved money for the projects or activities I organized. Nevertheless, a few more people stepped in and seemed to be willing to help. With more friends and some supports I hope that my dream will come true soon.

Body-Part Metaphors

Before you hear it all, please don't judge me yet. I stated this first because the topic that I am going to write about is about taboo words which might be offensive to many people. However, I do not intend to be rude or disgusting, but I am very interested in People's mind: I believe that if we really understand each other, we all can be friends. And, we can understand each other better if we learn to listen and hear what the other is saying, even it may sound offensive at the begining. That's why I wrote the following article, and pursued my interest in Metaphors. I have been moved or driven by words and expressions. Along the path for villagers empowerment, because of what I believed in words and expressions, I went through a lot of things and I am eager to share; I am heading to America to consult with my advisor. I don't know whether I will be able to make it or not, but I will do my best. For now " Love me, love my shit."

Love me love my shit
Sorry if it sounds offensive, but that’s what it should be; if you love someone unconditionally, the power of true love of yours will enable you to be understanding enough to learn to accept all that makes the person including his flaws or shitty or negative side. Like the true love of all parents for their kids. All the shits the children do can never stop the parents from loving them. And, I would say that most parents all over the world at least once in their parenthood have been willingly (if not happily) dealing with their children’s shit. As long as true love is concerned, nothing is impossible. However, not all children can accept their parents’ flaws. Many of them never learn to forgive their parents. Many “don’t give a shit” to their parents’ mistake as if they themselves never did anything wrong. I do not know about others, but for me, even though my  parents are poor, there are very rich in terms of love. They did their best to raise their children. I cannot say much about others, but for me, my parents are very rich in love despite the shortage in material or money. In fact, they did not have love only for us, their family, but also for other people like most of our neighbors. Many of them got free herbs, free treatment from my father, a traditional doctor. Now, they have gone. I only regretted for I could have done more for them. Nevertheless, I was glad and proud to have taken care of my mom’s shit and her health before she passed away. However, I had never given out my shit to anyone because of love until this, and I did give a shit because I care. Of course, there won’t be a second time for me. I did it because I did not know how to do it better. Hate me if you think you should, but “Love me, love my shit” for I know I am more than just a piece of shit.
